ISIS Claimed the Responsibility for Bombing at Kabul Wedding

ISIS Claimed the Responsibility for Bombing at Kabul Wedding. The death toll rose to the 63 on Sunday, including women and children.  However, the Taliban condemned the attack, regarded it as unjustifiable and forbidden and denied any involvement in the attack. ISIS Claimed the Responsibility for Bombing at Kabul Wedding in a statement at the official website of the organization.

The attack occurred in the Western Kabul that is home to the Hazara community, a Shiia minority in Afghanistan. ISIS has claimed the responsibility of many attacks in the past that has been carried out to attack the Shiia minority in Afghanistan.  A statement released by the official of ISIS on the website said that the ISIS fighter targeted the wedding of Shiia minority in Kabul.  The statement claimed that a car bomb was also exploded by the ISIS after the suicide attack. However, the Afghan government has not confirmed the car explosion.

During the wedding ceremony, when everyone was celebrating, the suicide attack occurred near the stage where the musicians were playing music. According to an eye witness, all the people present there were killed.

According to a survivor, almost 1200 people were invited to the wedding. Ahmed, who is a survivor said, “I was with the groom in the other room when we heard the blast and then I couldn’t find anyone, everyone was lying all around the hall.”

 The Afghan officials, the US ambassador, and Pakistan’s government condemned the blast and the killings of the innocent people. A spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani said, “Devastated by the news of a suicide attack inside a wedding hall in Kabul. A heinous crime against our people; how is it possible to train a human and ask him to go and blow himself (up) inside a wedding?!!”

Kabul’s wedding halls are a center of the community life and they serve the purpose of meeting places as well.  Amid the chaos and war in the country, wedding ceremonies are the only source of celebrations for the Afghan population.  Therefore, with these attacks, frustration, and anger for authorities has also grown. A worker of the wedding hall said, “We want the government to stop arguing about power and act like a human being to bring peace to this country. “
