Blind People could Restore some of Their Sight
“Blind people could restore some of their sights,” A Study Claims. A new technique of optical implant has been introduced in the field of medical science. The optic implant uses the electrodes to send the message to the brain, bypassing the eyeball completely. A new technology called “OpticSELINE” has been used and by using the technology blind People could restore some of their sights.
Cure for Glaucoma
The study reveals that technology could cure glaucoma that is the second world’s largest cause of blindness. In addition to glaucoma, the new technology will cure the other conditions where the nerve connected to the brain is damaged. The successful experiment has been carried out on the animals by surgically implanting the electrodes.
A Neuro engineer said, “We believe intraneural stimulation can be a valuable solution for several Neuro-prosthetic devices for sensory and motor function restoration.”

OpticSELINE to Restore the Sight of Blind People
OpticSELINE for human beings consists of 48-60 electrodes. The device could not restore the sight completely, however it would be enough to provide sight for the daily living.
How does it work?
An experiment was conducted on the rabbits and to demonstrate the effects of the opticSELINE, researchers delivered an electric current to the nerve and used a complex algorithm to decode the signals in the visual cortex of the blind rabbits.
Hence, each electrode induced a specific pattern of white light to make some kind of blur images. The electrodes were implanted in the optic nerve that plays an important role and transmits signals from the eye to the brain and allows us to see. However, in the initial study, the quality and degree of visual perception remain unknown.
A researcher said, “we will take feedback from the patients in future clinical trials in order to fine-tune the patterns”.
If it would be successful, it will help blind people to restore their sight. There are 39 million blind people in the world and there are various causes behind the blindness. Therefore the new technology is highly beneficial for all those people to perform their daily life activities.
